Safety first
According to Koskitukki's Head of Purchasing Markus Karjalainen Koskitukki has 10 woodsmen of their own at the moment, these mostly work in pairs. Work safety is paramount.
- Equipment is the key to everything. The most important thing is the overalls these have to protect against the wind and rain. There is also a fibreglass layer underneath which stops the chainsaw immediately so that it won’t cut through the overalls. The equipment also includes a helmet and nowadays a mobile phone, Karjalainen says.
Working with a partner aids safety even though they may be working several hundred metres apart. If something happens, help is close at hand. Calls in the morning and afternoon are a routine and they are especially important when a woodsman is working alone on a plot.
