Leena Haaparanta carried out her thesis work on the carbon footprint of KoskiCrown and KoskiStandard plywood boards for Koskisen’s Panel Products Industry. The end result was as expected: the New Size plywood boards have a relatively small carbon footprint.

KoskiLaser 3D, developed to meet the needs of the medical and cosmetics industries, keeps on developing. The new thin veneer plywood, which contains plenty of resin and is manufactured using special POMMS technology, brings benefits in embossing and die-cutting applications.

Waterjet cutting can be used on a multitude of materials, for example thick coated plywood, different metals and one-millimetre-thick plywood. Koskisen collaborates with two Finnish waterjet specialists, Ultracut and Jetmasters, which have common customers.

The Marttiini company has been manufacturing knives in Rovaniemi since 1928, always respecting the traditions of the company’s founder, Janne Marttiini. Marttiini’s world-famous fillet knives, sold in Wal-Mart stores in the U.S., hold a piece of Koskisen in them, as the handle of the knife is manufactured from Koskisen’s air-dried birch.

Believe it or not – Koskisen thin veneer plywood can even be used to make hats. The ingenious “Big Bang” hat designed by young British designer Keely Hunter was recently entered in a fashion competition arranged by Vogue.
